Paintings sometimes emerge from photos like this one that I took in my sisters garden. These three beautiful tulips were shimmering in the morning light and an old rusty chair sits in the background just waiting for someone to come and enjoy the wonderful view. I have spent many a morning in a chair like that on the old back porch with a cup of coffee and a soft breeze floating through the trees. Wonderful mornings like these remind me to give thanks. I feel so lucky to know the importance of spending time with nature. It's my favorite thing.
About Me
- Elizabeth Bravo
- Carmichael, CA, United States
- I was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin, number 6 of 10 kids. It was a great place to grow up. Our yard alone contains subjects that I will never get to. During the summers we had a cottage on a lake and we enjoyed every moment in the sun. Those days still live in my heart and again there are many vivid pictures in my mind that I may never capture in a painting, but I would like to try. Today I am a flight attendant. It's not what I had hoped to do with my life, but I would say that a higher power was there telling me I needed to see more than my own back yard and our summer cottage. My travels gave me thousands of subjects to choose from for my work. Now, after 21 years of flying, I am starting to realize my life long dream of being a full time artist. I hope you will visit often and watch my progress. There is still a long road ahead, but my back pack is on and I am ready to make the hike. Thank you for visiting. Elizabeth Bravo

Mental Ward

This painting is of a shed in my friends back yard. The lake is just 25 feet or so to the left and it is so beautiful. Her husband always kept that sign in the window. Now our good friend Tom is gone, but I will always remember him and his little shed called the Mental Ward. I am posting this in celebration of the up coming 4th of July. In more ways then one, this is how I see America. We are all a little crazy and wouldn't it be nice to have a Mental Ward in our own back yard to retreat to when we've had enough. Just a though. This original is not for sale, but prints will be available soon on Yessy. Thank you for visiting!

Beach Adventures
One of my favorite places in the world is Monterey and Carmel. I took this photo a year ago of some girls playing in the surf. I felt lucky to have gotten the shot. I have wanted to do the painting for a while and I intend to do another, maybe with acrylic. But for now the watercolor seemed to work just fine. It came out soft and misty just like I remember that day. I have added this and other new painting to my Yessy gallery. If you would like to take a look the link is on the side bar. As always, thank you for visiting.

Spirit Guide

I truly feel that some of my best work is a collaboration between me and a higher power. I most certainly had that feeling with this painting. I call it a spirit guide. I drizzled the paint and let things drip and I didn't worry where it would take me. Before long the painting started to emerge and it seemed to take on a life of it's own. It felt great to let the painting lead me rather than fighting to figure it out. My favorite thing about this painting is that it feels like a water color, but it is an acrylic.
Stella
I would like you to meet Stella. She is our sweet and clumsy cat who has captured our hearts and makes us laugh daily. I was working on something in the back room and she was laying there looking up at me with her paw tucked under. How could I resist doing her portrait. When she is trying to sleep in the day light she puts her paw over her eyes. I will have to do that one next. How can you not fall in love with a cat like that. I would like to say that I got this right the first time, but no, it took about 4 tries and a lot of layers.I am fairly sure it will stay this way, but the thing I love most about acrylics is that you can always decide to change it. Whats one more layer.

The Red Roof
I loved this photo, so I had to paint it. It was taken on a train trip my husband and I took from Sacramento to Seattle. What fun. The scenery was beautiful. The mountains seemed to melt into the sky and the grassy fields went on forever. My husband isn't fond of the tree in the for ground, but I love it. The only thing that is missing is the train tracks. I tried but they didn't work out. Maybe next time.
Honey I finished painting
This painting was fun to say the least. It just kept growing into a funny story about a husband who was told he couldn't go fishing until he painted the house. The cat was there to witness that he finished the job. More could have been added, but for now this is where it stands. I really like how it turned out.It will be added to my Yessy gallery soon. All paintings can be purchased on Yessy. Please visit by clicking on the yessy link on my side bar. As always thanks for visiting.
